I remember one of the talks a lecturer shared during the time we had Islamic discussions when my grandmother died. There was a question asked, “If Islam truly is the solution for all problems, then why do we still have all these dilemmas and difficulties even in the Muslim community?”
He answered, “Suppose I had a stomachache. I went to a knowledgeable doctor to consult for a medicine. He then gave me a name of a medicine and a prescription to intake it 3 times a day, 10 ml, every after meal. Like what he directed me to do, I bought the medicine and planned to use it after my dinner. But, instead of intaking it, I crushed the tablet, poured water on it and start rubbing it to my aching stomach because I don’t like the bitter taste of meds. Do you think I’ll feel any better?”
May all of us stop choosing what teachings to follow only to feed our own desires, may we take the Qur’an and Sunnah as it is and not to interpret it using our personal wishes. Assalamu'alaikum :)
